To our MN WIFT Chapter Members:
MN WIFT members gathered for the Annual Assembly and Board Election on Thursday, February 27th. Little did we know that less than a month later we would hold our first newly elected MN WIFT Board of Directors meeting virtually on Zoom. With our already full agenda of initiating new directors, new committee structure and member task force, it became crystal clear that at least for the unforeseeable future, this might be the “new normal”. The first draft of the events-calendar already had a handful of cancelled or rescheduled dates.
So, our highly creative group of board directors began re-envisioning how to continue our mission to Educate, Empower, Engage and Support Women in Film, Television and New Media.
Everyone in our industry has had projects cancelled or put on hold. Most of us are independent contractors or freelancers who cannot depend on a regular paycheck but rely on short and long projects to support our families. Many now have the additional job of homeschooling and/or entertaining their children at home. This pandemic has completely redefined and turned our lives upside down for at least the foreseeable future.
Last summer, I accepted the challenge to organize and implement a board development effort to restructure and revitalize our chapter. We examined the reasons and benefits for joining MN WIFT in 2005 in comparison with current day. We constructed a new board of directors’ blueprint to fill director seats with specific expertise and diverse experience within the industry. Committees are now divided into two platforms – Internal Operations and External Affairs. Rather than be bound to one area, directors may take the lead on an event of interest while participating in another committee.
MN WIFT is focused on member outreach, inclusion and collaboration with other industry groups. We are under the umbrella of WIFT International, with more than 40 chapters around the world, as well as the new WIFT US President’s support group of 26 comprised of chapters benefiting all members. The changes globally since 2004 are exponential as we are co-mingling, both literally and virtually. Hence, one of the reasons for the wide-spread Coronavirus (COVID-19).
Self-care, health and wellness are our primary concerns and focus and as a group, we’d like to stay connected and support one another virtually. Below are a few resources among endless options:
Health Insurance Resource
MN Unemployment Insurance
Free Virtual Workout Classes
Free Movies and TV
We invite YOU to share links and ideas on the MN WIFT Public Forum.
Stay in touch and stay tuned for great things ahead!
With best regards,
President, MN WIFT Board of Directors
